Our tutors will teach Year 1 students following the Australian curriculum, ensuring they achieve key outcomes in communication, understanding language systems, and cultural awareness. By the end of Year 1, students use basic French to interact about themselves and their surroundings. They respond to simple questions and instructions using familiar phrases and gestures. Students begin to recognise common French words and phrases, use modelled language to create short texts, and understand basic pronunciation. They also explore cultural practices associated with French-speaking communities and recognise similarities and differences between French and English.
Our tutors will ensure to cover all topics from the Year 1 French curriculum:
Interacting in French:
Students participate in simple interactions using greetings, classroom instructions, and personal introductions. They use common phrases to describe themselves and express basic preferences, practising through role-plays and songs.
Mediating meaning in and between languages:
Students identify key information in familiar stories, songs, and classroom routines, using gestures or pictures to demonstrate understanding. They begin to recognise key French words and their meanings, making connections between language and cultural practices.
Creating text in French:
Students use familiar words to create simple spoken and written texts, such as introducing themselves or describing familiar objects. They practise writing short phrases and sentences using modelled language and basic French vocabulary.
Understanding language and culture:
Students learn to imitate French pronunciation, focusing on sounds and rhythms through songs and rhymes. They explore cultural practices like greetings and common gestures, discussing how language reflects culture in both French-speaking and Australian contexts.
