According to the UAC 2024 scaling report, French Continuers had a mean HSC mark of ~70.5, scaled up to around 70–72 on the ATAR scale. French Extension scored slightly higher at 76.0. Language continuers often scale well due to their academically strong cohorts.

The HSC French exam includes:

• Listening: Responding to recorded French prompts.
• Reading & Responding: Comprehension and translation tasks.
• Writing in French: Short answers and extended responses.
• Speaking: A conversational segment and a prepared presentation based on a chosen theme.

Preliminary Course (Year 11):

• The Personal World: Family life, home, education, work, and recreation.
• The French-speaking Communities: Cultural contexts and authentic language use.

HSC Course (Year 12):

• Extended Communication: Enhanced skills in speaking, reading, listening, and writing.
• Themes: Holidays, future plans, global perspectives, and societal issues in French-speaking contexts.
