Our tutors will teach Year 2 students following the Australian curriculum, ensuring they develop foundational skills in history, geography, and inquiry. By the end of Year 2, students identify the significance of local people, places, and buildings and understand the effects of technological changes on daily life. They explore how places are connected at local and regional levels and how First Nations Australians have deep ties to their Country/Place. Students develop questions, collect and interpret information, and draw conclusions using observations and sources. They communicate their findings through narratives and explanations, using appropriate terms to describe time and place.
History:
Year 2 students explore the significance of local individuals, groups, and places, including their social, cultural, and spiritual importance. They learn how technological changes have shaped people’s lives, such as changes in transport, communication, and everyday objects, comparing the past with the present.
Geography:
Students learn how places can be represented on maps and how geographical divisions extend from local to regional scales. They explore connections between their own community and places further afield, such as regional centres or state capitals. They also investigate the cultural connections of First Nations Australians to their local Country/Place, including the spiritual relationships with land, water, and sky.
Skills:
Students develop their inquiry skills by posing questions about people, places, and events, and collecting information from sources such as maps, photos, and stories. They learn to interpret data and draw conclusions, discussing different perspectives on local landmarks or historical changes. Students practise communicating their findings using simple timelines, maps, and descriptive language, sharing what they have learned about their community and its history.
