Our tutors will teach Year 4 students following the Australian curriculum, ensuring they achieve key outcomes in communication, understanding language systems, and appreciating cultural nuances. By the end of Year 4, students use Chinese to interact in structured exchanges, share information about their classroom and personal lives, and participate in spoken and written activities. They use basic sentence structures, familiar characters, and Pinyin to interpret and create texts. Students develop an understanding of pronunciation, tones, and the cultural significance of certain phrases and traditions, recognising how language and culture are intertwined.
Our tutors will ensure to cover all topics from the Year 4 Chinese curriculum:
Interacting in Chinese:
Students engage in simple conversations about themselves, school, and daily routines using formulaic expressions. They practise responding to questions and giving directions, using role-plays and group activities.
Mediating meaning in and between languages:
Students identify and respond to key information in stories, songs, and conversations, using pictures or gestures to convey understanding. They begin translating simple words and phrases and explore cultural meanings behind certain expressions.
Creating text in Chinese:
Students create short spoken and written texts, such as descriptions of animals or daily activities, using familiar words and modelled sentences. They practise writing characters and using Pinyin for pronunciation.
Understanding language and culture:
Students learn about Chinese pronunciation, tones, and the structure of characters through songs and activities. They explore the cultural significance of traditional Chinese festivals, gestures, and practices, such as greetings and the use of certain symbols.
