Our tutors will teach Year 4 students following the Australian curriculum, ensuring they develop essential skills in reading, writing, and communication. By the end of Year 4, students interact with others, sharing ideas, opinions, and stories through spoken and multimodal texts. They use structures to organise and link ideas, employing a range of vocabulary and language features. Students read and interpret texts designed to inform, influence, and engage, understanding how characters and events develop and how texts reflect their contexts. They create written and multimodal texts, using paragraphs and complex sentences to convey ideas clearly, and spell a range of words using their knowledge of phonics, morphemes, and grammar.
Language:
Year 4 students learn to use language effectively for different contexts, adjusting their speech and writing based on purpose and audience. They explore text structures, including narratives, information reports, and persuasive texts, and understand how language features like conjunctions and descriptive words create cohesion. They learn to form complex sentences, use quoted and reported speech, and expand their vocabulary with synonyms, antonyms, and words from various sources.
Literature:
Students engage with literature by discussing storylines, characters, and settings from diverse cultures, including First Nations Australian authors. They explore how authors use language and literary devices to build tension and develop characters, and they enjoy working with poetry, including rhyme and wordplay. Students create their own stories, using feedback to refine plots, characters, and settings.
Literacy:
Students practise listening and speaking in discussions, using skills to extend conversations and clarify information. They analyse how different texts use language and visuals to engage specific audiences, and use phonics, grammar, and comprehension strategies to read fluently. Writing tasks include creating and editing imaginative, informative, and persuasive texts, focusing on paragraph structure, complex sentences, and vocabulary. They also develop their spelling and handwriting skills, learning to write multisyllabic and complex words correctly.
