Our tutors will teach Year 2 students following the Australian curriculum, ensuring they develop essential reading, writing, and communication skills. By the end of Year 2, students interact with others, listening and sharing stories, ideas, and opinions. They read and comprehend texts, identifying literal and inferred meanings, and recognise the structures of different types of texts. Students create written and multimodal texts, organising their ideas clearly and using punctuation and vocabulary effectively. They apply phonic knowledge to read and spell words with regular patterns and write legibly using unjoined letters.
Language:
Year 2 students learn to use language for different purposes, adjusting their communication based on context. They explore the structure of various text types, such as narratives and informative texts, and learn how language features like pronouns and conjunctions create cohesion. Students practice building noun groups and understand how images add meaning to texts, making deliberate vocabulary choices suited to their topics.
Literature:
Students engage with literature by discussing characters and settings in stories from diverse cultures, including those by First Nations Australian authors. They learn to identify features of literary texts, express preferences, and discuss how language presents characters and settings. They also experiment with rhythmic patterns in poems, chants, and songs and adapt familiar stories through creative activities.
Literacy:
Students practise listening and speaking in discussions, using interaction skills to extend ideas and respond to others. They learn to identify the purpose and audience of different texts and use phonics to read with fluency. Writing tasks include creating and editing short texts, where they use appropriate vocabulary, sentence structure, and punctuation. Additionally, they refine their knowledge of phonics, spelling patterns, and morphemes to improve their reading and writing skills.
