Our tutors will teach Year 3 students following the Australian curriculum, ensuring they develop key skills in reading, writing, and communication. By the end of Year 3, students interact with others, sharing ideas, opinions, and details from their learning and interests. They read and comprehend a variety of texts, identifying literal meanings and making inferences. Students describe how stories are built through characters and events and use specific vocabulary and text structures to convey their own ideas in writing. They spell multisyllabic words using phonic knowledge and write legibly with consistent letter formation.
Language:
Year 3 students learn to use language to interact in different contexts, adapting their speech based on formality. They explore the structure of various text types, such as narratives and reports, and understand how paragraphs organise information. They also learn to use grammar features like verbs and clauses to express actions, feelings, and ideas accurately, and explore how images and vocabulary choices contribute to the meaning of texts.
Literature:
Students engage with literature by discussing characters, settings, and events in stories from diverse cultures, including those by First Nations Australian authors. They connect personal experiences to character experiences and explore how authors use language and illustrations to create mood and atmosphere. Students also learn about literary devices such as rhythm and onomatopoeia, using these insights to create their own imaginative texts.
Literacy:
Students practise listening and speaking in discussions, using skills to build on others' ideas and express their own. They analyse how language and images are used to target specific audiences in texts, and use their knowledge of phonics and grammar to read fluently. Writing tasks include creating and editing imaginative, informative, and persuasive texts with a focus on structure, paragraphs, and appropriate vocabulary. They also develop skills in handwriting and spelling, learning to write words with complex patterns and use high-frequency words accurately.
