Expert Year 3 Science Tutors Aligned with the Australian Curriculum

Our Year 3 Science tutors focus on helping students achieve key outcomes, such as classifying living and non-living things, understanding different life cycles, and recognizing the properties of soils, rocks, and minerals. We guide students in exploring heat energy, changes in states of matter, and using data to explain scientific observations. Our goal is to support students in conducting fair tests, making measurements, and communicating their findings using scientific vocabulary.

Biological Sciences:
Students compare living and non-living things and explore life cycles of various plants and animals. Our tutors help them understand differences in growth and development, supporting them in using observations to classify and describe life stages.

Earth and Space Sciences:
Students learn about the properties of soils, rocks, and minerals and their importance as Earth resources. Our tutors guide them in observing and comparing different soil types and rocks, helping them understand their role in the environment and everyday life.

Physical Sciences:
Students identify sources of heat energy and observe how heat transfers between objects. Our tutors support them in conducting simple experiments to explore temperature changes, helping them understand concepts like insulation and heat conduction.

Chemical Sciences:
Students explore the properties of solids and liquids and observe how adding or removing heat can cause changes in state, such as melting or freezing. Our tutors guide them in understanding how these processes relate to everyday experiences and natural phenomena.

Science as a Human Endeavour:
Students learn how people use data to develop scientific explanations and solve problems, from managing soil health to designing better insulators. Our tutors provide examples of how scientific knowledge is applied in real-world contexts, fostering critical thinking.

Science Inquiry:
Our tutors encourage students to pose questions, make predictions, and plan safe investigations. They guide students in using familiar tools to make measurements, recording observations, and organizing data in tables and graphs to identify patterns and relationships.

Persia B
ATAR:
98.9
Location:
Parkville
Academic
My name is Persia, and I have 5 years of tutoring experience across English, Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry. During this time, I have consistently tutored around 5 students per term, working with students of a range of ages and abilities, from younger students building their foundations to Year 12 students preparing for their final exams. I have worked with many Year 12 students in the lead-up to their final exams, but I also love helping students of all ages develop their confidence and understanding. I achieved an ATAR of 98.9, with scores of: 96 in English Advanced, 94 in English Extension 1, 93 in Chemistry, 94 in Biology, 92 in Advanced Mathematics, and 91 in Mathematics Extension. I achieved 90+ scores across 8 subjects in Year 12 while balancing extracurricular commitments including ballet, basketball, musical theatre, and violin. Because I had to balance so many commitments, I learned early on that studying for hours on end wasn't necessarily the most effective approach. Instead, I had to learn how to study actively, making sure every minute of study had a purpose. This is something I strongly believe in bringing to my tutoring. I have maintained an H1 WAM throughout my university studies, not by working myself to the bone for hours on end, but by adjusting my approach to study (working smarter, not harder!) Focusing on understanding rather than rote memorisation not only increases your chances of reaching your goal grade, but also saves you so much time in the long run. I am currently in my final semester of a Bachelor of Biomedicine at the University of Melbourne, where I have continued to develop my knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics while maintaining an H1 WAM. I hope to transfer these methods to my students. My number one focus is to identify and fill any gaps in understanding, work with you towards your individual goals, and develop smart study habits that maximise your study time. I believe effective tutoring is about more than simply getting through content; it is about genuinely understanding the material and developing the confidence to tackle problems and answer questions independently. After all, the goal isn't just to get through the next test, but to develop skills that make studying more effective in the long run. My objective is to make sure every lesson is engaging, supportive, student-led, and never boring. Whether I'm helping a younger student build strong foundations or supporting a Year 12 student through their final exams, I want my students to leave each lesson feeling more confident in their abilities and equipped with practical strategies they can continue using in their own study. If you would like to chat more about my academic background, tutoring experience, or approach to teaching, please feel free to reach out, I would be very happy to answer any questions!

How to organise a Year 3 Science tutor?

Identify if your child needs help with understanding topics like heat, soil, or scientific investigations. Apex Tuition Australia connects students with top-tier tutors—only the top 3% are accepted. All tutors are Working With Children Checked and trained to deliver content aligned to the Australian Curriculum.

How does Year 3 Science tutoring work?

Tutors assess the student’s understanding of key science topics and build on their knowledge through guided investigations and interactive explanations. Lessons include vocabulary building, data interpretation, and practice with scientific methods like fair testing and observation. Sessions can be conducted online or in person.

Why should you get a tutor for Year 3 Science?

Year 3 introduces core scientific concepts like heat transfer, states of matter, and life cycles, which form the basis for future learning. A tutor can explain these topics using hands-on experiments and real-life examples, making abstract ideas more concrete. Tutors also help develop inquiry and reasoning skills crucial for scientific thinking at this stage.

What topics are covered in Year 3 Science?

Year 3 Science covers biological sciences (life cycles and classification of living and non-living things), earth and space sciences (properties and uses of soils, rocks, and minerals), physical sciences (heat energy and its transfer), and chemical sciences (states of matter and changes due to heating or cooling). Students also develop inquiry skills by planning investigations, collecting and analysing data, drawing conclusions, and communicating scientific ideas using proper vocabulary.

By the end of Year 3 Science what level should my child be?

Students should be able to classify living and non-living things, describe life cycles, explain the properties and uses of soils and rocks, and understand how heat causes changes in matter. They should conduct fair tests, collect and interpret data, and communicate their findings using scientific vocabulary and basic diagrams or graphs.

How much does Year 3 Science tutoring cost?

We have two service options. Our academic tutors are recently graduated high-school students who excelled at school. For online tutoring it is $62 per hour, otherwise for in-person it is $75 per hour. On the other hand, we have our professional tutoring tier which is comprised of qualified teachers and our best and most experienced tutors. Prices for this service are $95 per hour for online and $110 for in-person.

Why is Year 3 Science important to study?

Year 3 Science helps students understand the world around them by exploring changes in matter, heat, ecosystems, and Earth materials. At this age, children are curious and ready to engage with hands-on learning. It also nurtures problem-solving, observation, and critical thinking skills.
