Our tutors will teach Year 5 students following the Australian curriculum, ensuring they achieve key outcomes in communication, understanding language systems, and appreciating cultural nuances. By the end of Year 5, students interact in Chinese to share information about their interests, school, and daily routines. They use basic sentence structures and familiar characters to participate in conversations, respond to questions, and create simple texts. Students develop skills in using Pinyin for pronunciation and understanding the tones of spoken Chinese. They also explore how cultural practices and values are expressed through language.
Our tutors will ensure to cover all topics from the Year 5 Chinese curriculum:
Interacting in Chinese:
Students engage in conversations about their daily lives, interests, and school activities, using key phrases and modelled language. They practise asking and answering questions, and participate in role-plays and group discussions.
Mediating meaning in and between languages:
Students identify key information in spoken, written, and visual texts, using gestures or simple phrases to convey understanding. They begin to translate familiar phrases and reflect on cultural meanings behind certain expressions.
Creating text in Chinese:
Students use familiar vocabulary and sentence structures to create short spoken and written texts, such as introducing a family member or describing a typical day. They practise writing characters accurately and using Pinyin for pronunciation support.
Understanding language and culture:
Students learn about pronunciation and tones through reading aloud and singing. They explore cultural practices like traditional celebrations and discuss how language reflects values and beliefs in Chinese-speaking communities.
