Jake R - WACE Health Studies Tutor

Jake Reid is an ECU graduate with a Bachelor of Education (Secondary), majoring in Health and Physical Education (HPE) and minoring in Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS). Jake is a passionate and dedicated educator with close to six years of teaching experience across a diverse range of learning areas. Throughout his career, he has taught Science, Home Economics and Outdoor Education, primarily across Years 7–10. He has also delivered the Year 11 and 12 General Outdoor Education curriculum, including the theoretical components supporting students in completing their Externally Set Tasks (ESTs). Jake has five years of experience teaching Upper School Physical Education Studies and has consistently achieved strong outcomes with his students. Most recently, his Year 12 Physical Education Studies cohort achieved an average result of over 75%, reflecting his commitment to high-quality teaching, student engagement and academic achievement. Jake’s learning philosophy is centered on the belief that every student has the capacity to learn, achieve and develop when provided with the appropriate support, opportunities and learning environment. He recognizes that every student is an individual, bringing their own experiences, strengths, interests and learning needs to the classroom. Jake believes there is no single approach to teaching and learning that will work for every student. Maintaining an understanding of how students learn and recognizing that learning is not a one-size-fits-all process, is essential to effective teaching. He aims to use a diverse range of teaching strategies, resources and assessment methods to provide students with multiple opportunities to engage with content and demonstrate their understanding. Building positive relationships with students is also central to Jake’s teaching philosophy. He believes that when students feel respected, supported and valued, they are more likely to engage in their learning, take risks and develop confidence in their abilities. Jake strives to create an inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves. Jake also believes that effective teaching requires ongoing reflection and adaptability. Teachers must continually evaluate the effectiveness of their practice and be willing to adjust their approach based on student needs, progress and feedback. By understanding how individual students learn, Jake aims to identify barriers to learning, provide targeted support and appropriately challenge students to reach their full potential. Ultimately, Jake’s goal is to develop independent, confident and motivated learners who understand that success can look different for every individual. By providing a flexible, supportive and student-centered learning environment, he aims to empower every student to take ownership of their learning and achieve their personal best.
