Expert Year 9 Humanities Tutors Aligned with the Australian Curriculum

Our tutors will teach Year 9 students following the Australian curriculum, ensuring they develop an in-depth understanding of history, geography, civics, and economics. By the end of Year 9, students analyse the causes and effects of significant events, explore geographical processes, and understand the roles and responsibilities within Australia’s political and legal systems. They investigate the interdependence of global economies, the impact of trade, and the importance of sustainable practices. Students develop skills in research, critical analysis, and presenting well-supported arguments on various social, political, and economic topics.

History:
Year 9 students study the period from 1750 to 1918, focusing on the Industrial Revolution, European imperial expansion, and the significant global movements of people, including the impact of these changes on Australia. They learn about the causes and effects of World War I, the experiences of Australians during the war, and the broader social and political impacts of these historical events. The curriculum emphasises analysing different perspectives and understanding the consequences of imperialism and nationalism during this time.

Geography:
Students explore "Biomes and food security" and "Geographies of interconnections." They study the characteristics of various biomes and their importance for food production, examining the impact of human activities on these environments. They analyse the challenges of achieving food security and sustainable practices. Additionally, students investigate how global connections, such as trade and tourism, shape places and environments, focusing on the interconnections between Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Civics and Citizenship:
Students delve into Australia’s federal system of government, the role of the Constitution, and the legislative process. They explore the structure and function of the Australian court system, understanding how laws are applied and interpreted. The curriculum also addresses global citizenship, examining how Australia’s interactions with other nations shape its society and influence civic participation. Students study the role of the media in shaping identity and attitudes toward diversity.

Economics and Business:
Year 9 students investigate the dynamics of international trade, focusing on Australia’s economic relationships with Asian countries. They learn about the role of Australia’s financial sector in shaping economic decisions and how businesses maintain competitive advantages. The curriculum covers strategies for managing financial risks and rewards, helping students understand the complexities of economic decision-making and the benefits of global interdependence.

Persia B
ATAR:
98.90
Location:
Parkville

My name is Persia, and I have 5 years of tutoring experience across English, Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry. During this time, I have consistently tutored around 5 students per term, working with students of a range of ages and abilities, from younger students building their foundations to Year 12 students preparing for their final exams. I have worked with many Year 12 students in the lead-up to their final exams, but I also love helping students of all ages develop their confidence and understanding. I achieved an ATAR of 98.9, with scores of: 96 in English Advanced, 94 in English Extension 1, 93 in Chemistry, 94 in Biology, 92 in Advanced Mathematics, and 91 in Mathematics Extension. I achieved 90+ scores across 8 subjects in Year 12 while balancing extracurricular commitments including ballet, basketball, musical theatre, and violin. Because I had to balance so many commitments, I learned early on that studying for hours on end wasn't necessarily the most effective approach. Instead, I had to learn how to study actively, making sure every minute of study had a purpose. This is something I strongly believe in bringing to my tutoring. I have maintained an H1 WAM throughout my university studies, not by working myself to the bone for hours on end, but by adjusting my approach to study (working smarter, not harder!) Focusing on understanding rather than rote memorisation not only increases your chances of reaching your goal grade, but also saves you so much time in the long run. I am currently in my final semester of a Bachelor of Biomedicine at the University of Melbourne, where I have continued to develop my knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics while maintaining an H1 WAM. I hope to transfer these methods to my students. My number one focus is to identify and fill any gaps in understanding, work with you towards your individual goals, and develop smart study habits that maximise your study time. I believe effective tutoring is about more than simply getting through content; it is about genuinely understanding the material and developing the confidence to tackle problems and answer questions independently. After all, the goal isn't just to get through the next test, but to develop skills that make studying more effective in the long run. My objective is to make sure every lesson is engaging, supportive, student-led, and never boring. Whether I'm helping a younger student build strong foundations or supporting a Year 12 student through their final exams, I want my students to leave each lesson feeling more confident in their abilities and equipped with practical strategies they can continue using in their own study. If you would like to chat more about my academic background, tutoring experience, or approach to teaching, please feel free to reach out, I would be very happy to answer any questions!

Why should you get a tutor for Year 9 Humanities?

Year 9 Humanities introduces complex global and historical ideas that are vital for understanding today's world. A tutor can help clarify dense content like imperialism, Federation, or food security, and support the development of critical thinking and source analysis. They provide guidance in constructing well-supported historical arguments and geographical inquiries. This is especially helpful as students begin dealing with multiple perspectives and academic writing tasks.

What topics are covered in Year 9 Humanities?

History:

  • Making and Transforming the Australian Nation: European imperialism, colonisation impacts on First Nations Australians, Federation, development of democracy, and Australian identity formation.
  • The First World War: Causes, Australian involvement, major battles like Gallipoli, homefront effects, and the Anzac legacy.

Geography:

  • Biomes and Food Security: Global biome distribution, sustainable food production, and agricultural challenges in Australia and Asia.
  • Geographies of Interconnections: Trade, tourism, technology's role in global connections, and sustainability strategies.
Why is Year 9 Humanities important to study?

Year 9 Humanities is essential as students develop a foundational understanding of how history and geography shape the modern world. At this age, they begin to critically evaluate global interconnections and historical developments that still impact society today. It builds empathy, informed citizenship, and analytical thinking—skills relevant for future studies and civic engagement.

By the end of Year 9 Humanities what level should my child be?

Students should be able to explain historical causes and effects, describe key events, and assess differing perspectives and interpretations. In Geography, they should understand the connections between human activity and environments, analyse interconnections globally, and propose sustainable strategies. Skills include inquiry development, source evaluation, data analysis, and persuasive communication using evidence.
