This worksheet teaches students to work out how long events take, including times that cross from am to pm, and to convert between seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks. The worksheet is split into warm-up questions, standard questions and then extension questions to test you.
The concepts it covers:
- 60 seconds = 1 minute, 60 minutes = 1 hour, 24 hours = 1 day, 7 days = 1 week.
- am times are from midnight to midday. pm times are from midday to midnight.
- Duration is how long something takes: from the start time to the finish time.
- An empty number line helps: jump to the next o'clock, then whole hours, then the minutes left.
What your child will practise:
- Converting between seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks.
- Finding the duration between two times, including across midday.
- Finding a finish time from a start time and a duration.
- Working backwards to find a start time.
- Planning a timetable or routine.
Every section opens with a worked example, and the download includes a full answer key with step-by-step solutions and teaching notes on the mistakes students most commonly make.
