This worksheet teaches students to find equal fractions using halves, quarters, eighths, fifths and tenths, and to connect fractions to decimals, metres and centimetres. The worksheet is split into warm-up questions, standard questions and then extension questions to test you.
The concepts it covers:
- Equivalent fractions are the same amount written in different ways: 1/2 = 2/4 = 4/8.
- Splitting every part into the same number of smaller parts makes an equivalent fraction: 3/4 = 6/8 (each quarter is cut into 2 eighths).
- Tenths and hundredths can be written as decimals: 7/10 = 0.7 and 25/100 = 0.25.
- Familiar fractions have decimal partners: 1/2 = 0.5, 1/4 = 0.25, 3/4 = 0.75, 1/5 = 0.2.
What your child will practise:
- Using fraction walls and bars to find equivalent fractions.
- Completing equivalent fractions such as 3/4 = □/8.
- Writing tenths and hundredths as decimals, and decimals as fractions.
- Connecting fractions of a metre to centimetres and decimals.
- Finding a fraction of a collection using an array.
Every section opens with a worked example, and the download includes a full answer key with step-by-step solutions and teaching notes on the mistakes students most commonly make.
