This worksheet teaches students to order everyday events and chance outcomes from impossible to certain, and to decide whether one event changes the chance of another. The worksheet is split into warm-up questions, standard questions and then extension questions to test you.
The concepts it covers:
- Chance words, from least to most likely: impossible, unlikely, even chance, likely, certain.
- Independent events don't affect each other. A coin doesn't remember its last toss.
- Dependent events do affect each other. Taking a card out of a pack and not putting it back changes what is left.
- Some events can't happen at the same time: a card can't be both red and a spade.
What your child will practise:
- Using chance words to describe events.
- Ordering events and outcomes from least likely to most likely.
- Comparing chances by counting what is in a bag.
- Deciding whether events are independent or dependent.
- Identifying events that can't happen together.
Every section opens with a worked example, and the download includes a full answer key with step-by-step solutions and teaching notes on the mistakes students most commonly make.
