This worksheet teaches students to connect 3D objects to their nets, decide which arrangements of squares fold into a cube, and find opposite faces on a dice net. The worksheet is split into warm-up questions, standard questions and then extension questions to test you.
The concepts it covers:
- A net is a flat shape that folds up to make a 3D object. It shows every face of the object exactly once.
- A prism has two identical end faces joined by rectangles. A triangular prism's net has 2 triangles and 3 rectangles.
- A pyramid has one base and triangles that meet at a point. A square pyramid's net has 1 square and 4 triangles.
- A cube's net has 6 squares. When it folds, each face has exactly one opposite face.
What your child will practise:
- Naming the faces in the net of a prism, pyramid or cylinder.
- Identifying an object from a description of its net.
- Deciding whether an arrangement of squares folds into a cube.
- Finding opposite faces on a cube net (e.g. to number a dice).
- Designing the net for a box with given measurements.
Every section opens with a worked example, and the download includes a full answer key with step-by-step solutions and teaching notes on the mistakes students most commonly make.
