This worksheet introduces percentages as parts of a whole, teaching students to connect familiar percentages to fractions and decimals using 100-grids and everyday examples like battery charge. The worksheet is split into warm-up questions, standard questions and then extension questions to test you.
The concepts it covers:
- Percent means "out of 100". 100% is the complete whole.
- A percentage can be written as a fraction out of 100 and as a decimal: 35% = 35/100 = 0.35.
- Familiar equivalents: 10% = 1/10 = 0.1, 25% = 1/4 = 0.25, 50% = 1/2 = 0.5, 75% = 3/4 = 0.75.
- The part that is left over is 100% minus the part you have: if 30% is used, 70% is left.
What your child will practise:
- Describing a shaded part of a 10 × 10 grid as a fraction, decimal and percentage.
- Converting between familiar percentages, decimals and fractions.
- Finding the remaining percentage of a whole.
- Comparing and ordering amounts given as percentages, decimals and fractions.
Every section opens with a worked example, and the download includes a full answer key with step-by-step solutions and teaching notes on the mistakes students most commonly make.
