This worksheet teaches students to place the chance of an event on a scale from 0 to 1 or 0% to 100%, and to write and compare probabilities as fractions, decimals and percentages. The worksheet is split into warm-up questions, standard questions and then extension questions to test you.
The concepts it covers:
- Probability measures how likely something is, on a scale from 0 to 1 (or 0% to 100%).
- 0 (0%) means impossible. 1 (100%) means certain. 1/2 (0.5, 50%) means an even chance.
- The same probability can be written 3 ways: 1/4 = 0.25 = 25%.
- When all outcomes are equally likely: probability = number of outcomes you want ÷ total number of outcomes.
- The chance of something happening and the chance of it not happening add to 1 (100%).
What your child will practise:
- Placing events on the probability scale using words and numbers.
- Converting probabilities between fractions, decimals and percentages.
- Finding simple probabilities for dice, coins, spinners and bags of counters.
- Comparing and ordering probabilities written in different forms.
- Interpreting everyday chance language ("75% chance of rain", "1-in-100-year flood").
Every section opens with a worked example, and the download includes a full answer key with step-by-step solutions and teaching notes on the mistakes students most commonly make.
