This worksheet strengthens number skills with integers, covering comparing, ordering, and solving addition and subtraction problems with positive and negative numbers. The worksheet is split into warm-up questions, standard questions and then extension questions to test you.
The concepts it covers:
- An integer is a whole number that can be positive, negative or zero (…, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, …).
- On a number line, values increase to the right and decrease to the left.
- The further left a number sits, the smaller it is, so −8 < −1.
- Adding a negative is the same as subtracting; subtracting a negative is the same as adding.
What your child will practise:
- Comparing and order positive and negative integers using a number line.
- Adding integers — move right for a positive, left for a negative.
- Subtracting integers, including subtracting a negative (rewrite it as an addition).
- Finding a missing integer in an addition or subtraction by working backwards.
- Solving real-world problems with integers (temperature, elevation, money).
Every section opens with a worked example, and the download includes a full answer key with step-by-step solutions and teaching notes on the mistakes students most commonly make.
